Just finished reading "So You Want To Be Like Christ? Eight Essentials To Get You There" by Charles Swindoll. I think the title makes it sound like some self-help "how to be perfect in eight easy steps" kind of book, but it was a great book and one I will reread many times, I think. The eight essentials are intimacy, simplicity, silence & solitude, surrender, prayer, humility, self-control, and sacrifice, and the central theme is Phil 3:10:
[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him - that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding [the wonders of His Person] more strongly and more clearly, and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers]; and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death. (The Amplified Bible, Expended Edition)
So, Mr. Swindoll apparently has a window into my mind/heart and knew I needed a little (?) coaching on getting back to the basics. Scary when books seem to be written directly to you, isn't it? Now I'm starting Phillip Yancey's book on prayer (hope I didn't butcher the spelling of his name).
In typing this, I'm finally realizing my fingernails are TOO long. When you hit three keys instead of one, it's time for a clip and file.
Have an awesome day!
