A thought-provoking day...

First, I want to recommend two excellent blog entries I read today:

Doulos Of Christ

This is a brother from work who is very strong for Christ and an excellent thinker/writer. His comments on the VTech shootings, man-perspective, and God-perspective are excellent. I read it and thought, "That's what I've been trying to say and didn't know it - and couldn't have said it nearly as well." Then I found this quote from Francis Bacon in my day planner (my changes in brackets):

"The human understanding is like a false mirror, which, receiving rays irregularly, distorts and discolors the nature of [God] by mingling its own nature with [His]."

I liked Doulos' blog entry so much I wanted to boost it - even though I really didn't (and still don't) know what this is, it sounded like a good thing. The page I landed at had bits of other blogs (no mention of boosting at all, but now that I think about it, isn't that slang for stealing something?). To make a long story short, the page had a list of categories and I clicked on "Spirituality" which eventually led me to another interesting Christian blog entry:

Chris Russo

Not as scholarly or timely as the Doulos post, but just as thought-provoking. Being a lover of sci-fi/fantasy, I've always been a little conflicted about being a Christian and yet loving a genre that has nothing to do with Christ. Chris' blog prompted some interesting comments and the discussion tied in with the documentary on dragons I watched part of yesterday. I'd never equated dragons (or other "mythical" creatures) with the unknown creatures mentioned in the Bible. And if you read later entries in Chris' blog, you may agree with his "I want this house!" comment:

I want this house!

And some other quotes from my April planner pages:

"We read to know we're not alone." - C. S. Lewis

"A person usually has two reasons for doing something: a good reason and the real reason." - Thomas Carlyle

"People seldom improve very much when they have no other pattern to go by but themselves." - Oliver Goldsmith

"You never know when you're making a memory." - Rickie Lee Jones

"The nice thing about egotists is that they don't talk about other people." - Lucille S. Harper

"I think everyone should go to college and get a degree and then spend six months as a bartender and six months as a cabdriver. Then they would really be educated." - Al McGuire

"Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret." - Ambrose Bierce

"There doesn't seem to be any tomorrow. Every time I wake up, no matter in what position, it's always been today." - Bob Dylan

ENOUGH OF THAT

I have much work to do - balancing the checkbook to make sure there is money for expenses left before next payday (like food ); a little more housework to prepare for Danger Haley & Willie to wander in from camping at the Cave; some rural fire board work, to stay caught up. Guess I should quit indulging myself and get to it!
