Starting something new...

I finally started my first weaving project (over a week after I received the loom and kit for Christmas - DH was beginning to think it was a mistake). I'm always nervous about learning something new and have that whole fear-of-failure syndrome to contend with. And I knew it would require focus and thought, whereas crochet projects tend to "free" my mind - lots of solutions to problems pop into my head while crocheting 8-) Anyway, warping the loom was DIFFICULT but the actual weaving is not as stressful as I expected. Of course, I only work on it for about a half hour at a time, and not every day (which is why I only have about five inches completed!). I can tell it's a keeper, though, because I'm already thinking how different warps and wefts would result in different fabrics and what all I can make with those 14x18 blocks...and, of course, how to incorporate crochet!

My other WIPs are going well. The hat for my church friend was delayed due to lack of right yarn, but the pastor's wife bailed me out so now I need to get started on it. In the meantime, I picked up two new hats - one for my brother in some yarn/thread I'm using for a shawl for me (his request!) and one for a lady at church who is starting to experience hair loss due to cancer treatments. I got all the Mississippi ladies & babies taken care of - still have to whip up something for the men and can't decide if I want to do the neckwarmers after all or something else. And I STILL HAVE IN PROGRESS from pre-Christmas a Clint Eastwood-type (aka gunslinger) poncho for DH and a saddle blanket for oldest rodeo nephew.

What I really want to work on right now is tapestry crochet - this is another technique I've delayed trying due to FOF, but I had a nice and encouraging email response from Carol Ventura (the tapestry queen, IMHO) and now am feeling brave and wanting to start.

Hope life is allowing you plenty of time for crocheting!
