My sweet husband was a grudging volunteer to model the hat (back view only, though). I loved this hat when I wove in the last tail, but when I got it out last night to photograph, I didn't love it so much. The gauge seems too loose, so it doesn't have as much "body" as I would have liked, and I think I should have stuck to double-crochet instead of finishing the cone points wtih single crochet, which makes the ends denser and heavier than the rest of the hat. The colors I like, though.
Later, I talked to my mom (who has helped this same niece in learning to knit) and she thinks the hat request is actually this pattern from Lion Brand: Ear Flap Hat. So, I'm going to make her one of those, also, just in case, plus one for another niece - she wants a "crazy" hat, so there may be some free form coming out of the top of hers! I just finished one from the same pattern, adjusted to fit an almost-2-year-old (baby of friend of youngest daughter):

Projects still to be completed by Christmas - a warm hat for my wonderful father-in-law (made new hotpads and a scrubbie for wonderful MIL), a neckwarmer for my dad, and . . . OH MY GOSH! I think that's it. Well, dear oldest daughter wants a new hat and scarf, but that could be a January birthday gift.
Now if we could just get the tree up and a little decorating done, and a few cookies made...
God bless you all this holiday season!
