Blogging is hard work!

It's turning out that I'm not a very regular blogger, so I'm trying posting by email (I spend more time there reading the CPList than I do with my blog!).  I had a good crochet experience at work recently I wanted to share - I'm on a project team and the project manager is OK if I crochet during our working sessions as long as I'm contributing (and as long as we're not at the corporate office!).  So I was working on a bag made of black worsted weight, RH Bright & Lofty Licorice (black with bright colors), and bright orange fun fur.  One of the guys on the team said he sure wanted a beer coozie like that, so I finished the bag and made him one on the spot as a joke.  Now everybody on the team wants one 8-)  It's a standing joke on our team that I was going to crochet some team "clothes" since there's no budget for the typical shirt or jacket with project logo - guess it's going to be coozies instead!

I'm working on Christmas presents now - "hugs from Mom" shawls for my two daughters in college, with matching "heating pads" (one that's water-bottle sized and one just for the neck, filled with rice or pinto beans packed in scrap fabric, then a cover made with yarn to match the shawls), and I may get my husband's saddle blanket finished for Christmas (I'm weaving ends in now - you know how that goes!).

To my shame, I wasn't paying much attention to storm Katrina - my sister and family live in Mississippi but in the middle of the state, where I thought they were safe from tropical storms and hurricanes.  I'm on a business trip right now so had time to watch the news last night and saw the damage in Jackson MS (they're an hour east).  I was getting fretful but talked to DH today who had heard from them - my nephew had a tree fall on his recently purchased house, but it's insured - sister and husband lost several trees but no house damage.  It did wipe out their new goldfish pond, but that can be replaced.  A town near them suffered significant damage from a Katrina-related tornado, so it's a blessing they didn't have any more damage than that!

Non-crochet Christmas items I've got in mind - the Mini Memo Pad post-it note holders that are styled like purses - really cute designs, all with beaded handles, and look like they will work up really quickly.  Great for unexpected or last-minute gifts and who doesn't use post-it notes these days?

OK, I think my youngest daughter is about to arrive for our "dinner date" so I'm closing for now. I can already see I'm going to be a lot more "chatty" posting this way!
